Emily Pillsbury, MA, ALC, NCC

Emily Pillsbury is a trauma therapist in Montgomery Alabama

My Story

I founded River City Wellness in Montgomery, Alabama in January of 2026. My passion is to provide online and in-person psychotherapy to individuals, couples, or families seeking deeper connection in their lives. I am an Associate Licensed Counselor in the state of Alabama (ALC05836) and am under the supervision of Articia Hunter, LPC-S (SC3504). My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands. I love learning and am continuing my education experience through a doctoral program at Capella University, PhD in Developmental Psychology.

My desire to help others find healing is born from my own early experience of loss and grief. I know that systemic dysfunction and disconnection can lead to isolation and depression, compounding grief and trauma. While my experience provides me with a deep well of compassion and understanding, you are the expert of your story and I will attune to your experience and story.

My approach or theoretical orientation is person-centered therapy with a primary focus on attachment and story. As a clinician, I am committed to providing therapy that is grounded in empathy, compassion, and neuroscience-informed psychotherapy. This means that I want to provide a safe space where you can build trust and connection, while providing evidence based treatment that is grounded in research and experience. Whether you are just beginning in therapy, or you are further along in your journey, I will work to attune to you and your healing. My experience and training focus is neurodivergence, attachment/personality disorders, PTSD, moral injury, grief, sexual abuse, deconstruction, spiritual abuse, depression, and anxiety.

I know that trauma, disconnection, loneliness, and systemic injury can keep us stuck and I believe in the power of therapy to build connection through empathy, attunement, and compassion. I look forward to meeting you and becoming part of your therapeutic journey!
